โญ•

Circular Lawns

Measure the radius (centre to edge) in metres, then use: radius ร— radius ร— 3.14

Example: 3m radius = 3 ร— 3 ร— 3.14 = 28mยฒ

๐Ÿ“ฑ

Common questions answered

Everything you need to know before getting a new lawn.

How long does new turf take to establish?

Most turf varieties take 2โ€“6 weeks to fully establish depending on the season and how well the lawn is watered. In summer you'll see faster growth, in winter it takes longer. The key is consistent watering in the first 2โ€“3 weeks โ€” this is when roots are anchoring into the soil.

Do I need to remove my old lawn first?

Yes โ€” old grass, weeds and debris need to be removed before new turf is laid. We handle all of this as part of our site preparation. If you already have your old lawn removed and the ground is relatively level, let us know in your quote request as this can affect pricing.

What's the best time of year to lay turf in Melbourne?

Spring and early autumn are ideal for turf installation in Melbourne. Warm soil temperatures help roots establish quickly. Summer can work well too with consistent watering. Winter installations are possible but establishment is slower and some varieties struggle in the cold. We're taking bookings from September 2026 โ€” perfect timing for a spring install.

How much does turf installation cost in Melbourne?

Pricing depends on your lawn size, turf variety, site access and how much preparation is required. Use our quote calculator above to get a rough estimate, or submit a quote request and we'll get back to you within 24 hours with a clear, all-inclusive price.

How often should I water my new lawn?

For the first 2 weeks, water twice daily โ€” morning and evening. After that, reduce to once a day for another 2 weeks, then move to a normal watering schedule. The soil underneath should stay moist but not waterlogged. We'll give you a full watering guide tailored to your variety on installation day.

When can I mow my new lawn for the first time?

Wait until the turf has firmly rooted โ€” usually 2โ€“4 weeks after installation. You can test this by gently trying to lift a corner. If it resists, it's ready to mow. Set your mower to a high cut for the first few mows and never remove more than one third of the leaf at once.

Do you service my area?

We're based in Newport and primarily service Melbourne's western suburbs including Williamstown, Altona, Laverton, Hoppers Crossing, Werribee, Point Cook, Tarneit, Truganina, Williams Landing, Wyndham Vale, Caroline Springs, Footscray, Yarraville and Sunshine. We also travel across all of Metro Melbourne for the right job โ€” get in touch and we'll let you know.

Which turf variety is best for my lawn?

It depends on your situation. Sir Walter Buffalo is best for shaded areas or family lawns wanting a soft, low maintenance grass. TifTuf Hybrid Bermuda suits lawns in full sun that need to handle heavy foot traffic and dry summers. Eureka Kikuyu Premium is ideal for high traffic areas that need to recover quickly. Not sure? Just ask us in your quote request and we'll recommend the right variety for your yard.

How to care for your new lawn

Follow these simple steps after installation and your lawn will establish quickly and look great for years to come.

๐Ÿ’ง

Watering

Weeks 1โ€“2: Water twice daily, morning and evening. Keep the soil moist 10cm deep.

Weeks 3โ€“4: Reduce to once daily.

After 4 weeks: Water 2โ€“3 times per week or as needed. Early morning is best to reduce evaporation.

โœ‚๏ธ

First Mow

Wait 2โ€“4 weeks until the turf is firmly rooted before mowing. Test by gently lifting a corner โ€” if it resists, it's ready.

Set your mower high for the first few cuts and never remove more than one third of the leaf at once.

๐ŸŒฑ

Fertilising

Apply a starter fertiliser 4โ€“6 weeks after installation once the lawn has established. This encourages deep root growth and a lush green colour.

Fertilise again every 8โ€“12 weeks through the growing season. Avoid fertilising in winter.

๐Ÿšซ

Things to Avoid

โ€” No heavy foot traffic for the first 3โ€“4 weeks

โ€” Don't let the lawn dry out in the first month

โ€” Avoid mowing in the first 2 weeks

โ€” Don't apply weed killer until fully established

Variety Specific Tips

Sir Walter Buffalo

Tolerates shade well. Keep thatch under control with an annual dethatch. Avoid overwatering โ€” Sir Walter prefers to dry out slightly between waterings once established.

TifTuf Hybrid Bermuda

Highly drought tolerant once established. Needs full sun to thrive. Goes dormant and browns off in winter โ€” this is normal and it will bounce back in spring.

Eureka Kikuyu Premium

Fast growing โ€” may need more frequent mowing through summer. Thrives in full sun. Very hard wearing and recovers quickly from heavy use.
