Is It For You?

Is Eureka Kikuyu right for your lawn?

A great fit if…

  • Your lawn gets full sun (it needs at least 6 hours a day)
  • You have a busy family lawn with kids, pets or sport
  • You want a lawn that recovers quickly from wear, as it is self-repairing
  • You like a fine-leafed lawn that holds its colour well through winter

Think twice if…

  • Your yard has a lot of shade, as Kikuyu only tolerates up to about 25%. Sir Walter Buffalo is the better choice for shade
  • You want a low-maintenance lawn, as Kikuyu is fast growing and needs more frequent mowing
  • You have garden beds next to the lawn, as the runners spread above and below ground and need regular edging
  • You're not sure. Tell us about your yard and we'll recommend the right one

Aftercare

Caring for Eureka Kikuyu Premium

Follow these steps and your new lawn will establish quickly.

1

Watering

Weeks 1–2: twice daily, keeping the soil moist. Weeks 3–4: once daily. After that, 2–3 times a week or as needed. Early morning is best.

2

First mow

Wait 2–4 weeks until the turf is firmly rooted. Keep it at 25–50 mm and never remove more than a third of the leaf at once.

3

Feeding

Apply a starter fertiliser 4–6 weeks after installation, then every 8–12 weeks through the growing season. Avoid fertilising in winter.

4

Upkeep

Kikuyu is fast growing, so expect to mow more often through summer. Edge regularly along garden beds and paths, as the runners spread above and below ground.

FAQ

Eureka Kikuyu questions answered

How much sun does Eureka Kikuyu need?

It needs a minimum of about 6 hours of sun a day and only tolerates up to about 25% shade, so it suits open, sunny yards.

Is Kikuyu good for high-traffic lawns?

Yes. It has high wear tolerance and is self-repairing, so it recovers quickly from heavy use. That makes it a popular choice for families and pets.

Does Kikuyu stay green in winter?

It holds its colour well, though it may fade at the coldest point of winter.

How often will I need to mow?

Kikuyu is fast growing, so it needs more frequent mowing, especially through summer. Keep it between 25 and 50 mm.

How long does it take to establish?

Most turf takes 2–6 weeks to fully establish, depending on the season and how well it is watered. Kikuyu is fast establishing, and consistent watering in the first 2–3 weeks is the key.

When will my turf arrive, and can I track it?

Once your delivery date is confirmed, we will send you a text message at 3pm the day before your turf is due. It includes a link to track the truck delivering your turf, along with its ETA.
